10 Months until "We do?" To help you stay on track, we are continuing our Wedding Journey Series with our 10-month before-wedding to-do list. Let's dive in!
If You Haven't Already...
Set a Budget:
Start by determining your wedding budget. Consider all the essential elements such as venue,
catering, attire, and photography, while leaving room for any unexpected expenses that may arise.
Create a Guest List:
Decide on the number of guests you want to invite and create a preliminary guest list. This will help you estimate costs and find a suitable venue. You don't need everyone's address just yet, but you will want to get an idea of who you will be inviting. This will also affect your budget!
Choose a Venue:
Research and visit potential wedding venues that align with your vision. Consider factors like location, capacity, amenities, and cost. Once you find the perfect venue, book it as soon as possible to secure your desired date.
Hire a Wedding Planner:
We are clearly biased on this, but it's only because we truly believe no one should have to work on their wedding day! You shouldn't have to set up decorations before makeup or contact vendors while getting your hair done. If you haven't already, consider hiring a wedding planner to alleviate stress and assist with the planning process. At the very least, consider a Month-of coordinator and let them handle the details while you sip mimosas with your bridesmaids.
Our 10-Month Checklist
1. Book Key Vendors:
This is the biggest! If you do anything this month, start booking essential vendors such as caterers, photographers, videographers, and musicians. Your vendor team consists of the professionals who will make your wedding day happen! Research and meet with potential vendors, and review their portfolio. Once you make a decision, sign contracts and pay deposits to secure their services.
2. Choose Attire:
Begin shopping for your wedding dress or suit. This is more important for brides. Allow ample time for orders, alterations, and fittings. Also, consider the attire for your bridesmaids, groomsmen, and parents. Grooms and groomsmen don't have to get their suits until closer to the 3-month mark, but now is a good time to start thinking about your overall look and aesthetic.
3. Plan the Ceremony:
Decide on the type of ceremony you want and book an officiant. Discuss your vision for the ceremony, including any specific readings, rituals, or music you'd like to incorporate. The ceremony doesn't have to be set in stone, but knowing what you want to include will help guide the rest of your wedding planning journey.
4. Design Invitations:
Start working on your wedding invitations and Save the Dates. Decide on the design, wording, and theme. Once you have a draft, order a sample and make any necessary revisions before placing the final order. Save the Dates will go out 6 months before the Wedding day! 8-10 months if you are planning a destination wedding.
5. Research Accommodations:
If you have guests traveling from out of town, research hotel accommodations or negotiate group rates. Provide this information on your wedding website or include
it in the invitations. Some hotels require blocks to
be set 4-5 months before the wedding, but it is good to start looking now.
6. Begin Fitness and Beauty Regimens:
If you choose to do a fitness routine, start it now! It's also a good time to plan any beauty treatments or appointments to ensure you look and feel your best on your wedding day. Consult professionals for advice and create a schedule that suits your needs.
7. Plan a Date Night
Let's face it, wedding planning takes a lot of time! Choose a night to be just about you and your partner. No wedding planning. Plan to relax or go on an adventure. Take some time to be together as the amazing couple you are.
With 10 months to go, you have plenty of time to tackle these essential wedding tasks. Remember to stay organized, communicate with your partner, and enjoy the process.
By following our 10-month before-wedding to-do list, you'll be well on your way to creating the wedding of your dreams. Happy planning!
